Thomas Mather

Thomas was born in 1807 in Tyldesley and his baptism took place on April 8th, 1807 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).¹

Thomas' father was Nathan Mather and his mother was Jane (Jenny) Birchenhead. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Matthew, Abraham, Sarah, Betty and Mary. He was the youngest of the six children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, Abraham, Abraham, James and Peggy.

General Notes
- In 1851, Thomas (born Leigh) and Catherine (41 & 40) were at Bottom Croft, Wigan. Thay had only just married in 1850. Thomas was a widow, so must have been married before.
  
  Thomas may have married Margaret Leigh in Pemberrton on 18 Oct 1841. His father was Nathan Mather a miner, so possibly another family. The 1836 marriage to Margaret Shelmerdine in Leigh seems more likely, although fathers were not recorded at this time.
