Betty was born in 1796 in WestLeigh and her baptism took place on July 30th, 1796 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Betty's father was Nathan Mather and her mother was Jane (Jenny) Birchenhead. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Matthew, Abraham, Thomas, Sarah and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the six children. She had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named John, Abraham, Abraham, James and Peggy.
