Margaret's father was James Mather and her mother was Maria Hulme. Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Susanna (Susan) Whalley. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Nathaniel, Joseph, Martha, Mary, Polly and Emma. She had an adopted brother named Walter. She died at the age of 64 in September 1939 in Bolton. Her burial was on September 6th, 1939 in Bolton.²
