Margaret was born on August 30th, 1809 in Croft and her baptism took place on October 1st, 1809 at St. Oswald (Winwick).1 2  Margaret's father was William Mather and her mother was Martha Welch.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Ann Monks. She had five brothers and six sisters, named William, William, Thomas, James, John, Jane, Ellen, Ann, Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah.  She was the fifth youngest of the twelve children.
