Elizabeth was born on September 26th, 1805 in Croft and her baptism took place on October 20th, 1805 at St. Oswald (Winwick).1  Elizabeth's father was William Mather and her mother was Martha Welch.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Ann Monks. She had five brothers and six sisters, named William, William, Thomas, James, John, Jane, Ellen, Ann, Mary, Margaret and Sarah.  She was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.
