Kate's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Flitcroft. Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Catherine Rawsthorn or ROSTRON. She had four brothers and five sisters, named James, Joshua, Sam, Frank, Mary, Elizabeth, Isabel, Susannah and Jessie. She was the third oldest of the ten children.
