Jessie's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Flitcroft. Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Catherine Rawsthorn or ROSTRON. She had four brothers and five sisters, named James, Joshua, Sam, Frank, Mary, Kate, Elizabeth, Isabel and Susannah. She was the eighth oldest of the ten children.

- In 1901, Jessie (21, niece, born Reddish) was in Blackpool with her retired uncle and aunt John William and Elizabeth Kay (both 47). The couple (Elizabeth Flitcroft) had recently married in Blackpool RO in 1896
