Arthur's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Betsy Pendlebury Langshaw. His paternal grandparents were Solomon Mather and Betty Barns. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Eddie, Sidney, Albert, Eveline, Elizabeth, Maud and Gertrude. He was the seventh oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 70 on May 29th, 1946 in Connecticut (CT).²
