Amos was born on October 11th, 1835 in Edgworth and his baptism took place on November 10th, 1835 at Edgworth Independent.1 2  Amos' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Kirkham.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Alice Entwistle. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Charles, John, Alice, Ann and Jane. He had an adopted sister named Hannah.  He died at the age of 48 in February 1884 in Walmsley.  He was buried on February 23rd, 1884 at Christ Church, Egerton (Bolton).3 4

‌Amos and Hannah were married in a religious ceremony on May 30th, 1863 at Christ Church, Walmsley by minister J K Stubbs and witnessed by Thomas Mather & Mary Hullock.8  They had three sons and six daughters, named Charles, Thomas, Amos, Mary, Anne, Maggie, Alice, Sarah and Elizabeth.  There are no more children.
