Susannah, known as Susan, was born in 1832 in Preston and her baptism took place on April 22nd, 1832 at St. John (Preston).1 2  Susan's father was Ralph Isherwood and her mother was Ann Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were James Isherwood and Susan Crompton; her maternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Alice Fielding. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Ralph, John, James, Mary, Jenny, Charlotte, Ann and Alice. She had an adopted sister named Charlotte.

‌Susan and Richard were married in a religious ceremony on October 29th, 1855 at St. John (Preston).3
