Thomas' father was Alfred Farnworth and his mother was Alice Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Warburton. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Alfred, Joseph, George, Sarah, Ellen, Ellen, Alice and Esther.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine known children.  He died as an infant in 1872 in Bolton.¹
