George's father was Alfred Farnworth and his mother was Alice Mather. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Warburton. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Alfred, Joseph, Sarah, Ellen, Ellen, Alice and Esther. He was the youngest of the nine known children.
