Esther's father was Alfred Farnworth and her mother was Alice Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Warburton. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Alfred, Joseph, George, Sarah, Ellen, Ellen and Alice.  She was the second youngest of the nine known children.  She died in 1878 in Farnworth.¹
