Alice's father was Alfred Farnworth and her mother was Alice Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Warburton. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Alfred, Joseph, George, Sarah, Ellen, Ellen and Esther. She was the fifth oldest of the nine known children.
