Ben was born on March 6th, 1880 in Darcy Lever and his baptism took place on April 11th, 1880 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Ben's father was William Buckley and his mother was Ann Pollitt (Greenhalgh).  His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Buckley and Mary Webster; his maternal grandparents were Miles Pollitt and Betty (Elizabeth) Openshaw Greenhalgh. He had a brother and three sisters, named John, Sarah, Esther and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Levi, John, Phipps, Thomas, Mary, Hannah, Agnes and Martha.  He died at the age of 72 in September 1952 in Bolton.3
