Thomas' father was Thomas Holt and his mother was Ann Pollitt (Greenhalgh). His maternal grandparents were Miles Pollitt and Betty (Elizabeth) Openshaw Greenhalgh. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named John, Ben, Sarah, Esther and Sarah. He died at the age of 1 in March 1871 in Bolton.²
