William was born in 1870 in Bingley.1  William's father was Moses Briggs and his mother was Alice Pickles.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Briggs and Abigail Bradshaw; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Roberts. He had a brother and eight sisters, named Mark, Roseanna, Harriet, Caroline, Abigail, Emma, Mary, Alice and Emma.  He was the second youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 17 on April 24th, 1887 in Bingley.  He was buried in April 1887 in Bingley.2
