Hannah was born in 1840 in Newsome.1  Hannah's father was George Blackburn and her mother was Martha Sykes.  Her paternal grandparents were Michael Blackburn and Hannah Eastwood. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Jonathan, John, George, Elizabeth and Lydia.  She was the oldest of the six children. She had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Henry, Joseph, Michael, Hannah, Mary and Ellen.
