Henry's father was George Blackburn and his mother was Phebe Oldham.  His paternal grandparents were Michael Blackburn and Hannah Eastwood. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Michael, Hannah, Mary and Ellen.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Jonathan, John, George, Hannah, Elizabeth and Lydia.  He died at the age of 56 in 1884.
