George's father was George Blackburn and his mother was Martha Sykes.  His paternal grandparents were Michael Blackburn and Hannah Eastwood. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Jonathan, John, Hannah, Elizabeth and Lydia.  He was the youngest of the six children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Henry, Joseph, Michael, Hannah, Mary and Ellen.  He died at the age of 21 in March 1873 in Batley.  He was buried on March 12th, 1873 in Batley.²
