Mieszko, known as "the Great", was born about 1126 in Krakaow, Poland.  "the Great"'s father was King Boleslaw ("Wrymouth", "Crooked Mouth") III of Poland and his mother was Countess Salome de Berg-Schelklingen.  His paternal grandparents were Prince Wladyslaw I Herman and Princess Judita I of Bohemia; his maternal grandfather was Count Heinrich I of Berg-Schelklingen and his maternal grandmother is Adelheid von Mochental. He had a brother and three sisters, named Kazimierez, Richiza, Judyta and Agnieszka. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named "the Exile" and Agnes.


"the Great"'s first family with Princess Erzsebet of Hungary

‌"the Great" and Erzsebet were married in a religious ceremony about 1140.  They had a son and a daughter, named Odon and Elzbita.


"the Great"'s second family with Princess Evdokiya Izyaslavna of Kiev

‌"the Great" and Evdokiya were married in a religious ceremony after 1155.  They had a daughter named Zwinislawa.
