Salome was born about 1099 in Schelkingen, Donaukreis, Wurttemberg.  Salome's father was Count Heinrich I of Berg-Schelklingen and her mother is Adelheid von Mochental.  Her paternal grandparents were Graf Poppo von Berg and Sophia Arpad; her maternal grandfather was Count Diepold II of Nordgau and her maternal grandmother is Luitgard von Zahringen. She had a brother and a sister, named Diepolt II and Richza.  She was the second oldest of the three children.  She died on July 27th, 1144.

They had two sons and three daughters, named "the Great", Kazimierez, Richiza, Judyta and Agnieszka.
