Her paternal grandparents were James, Jr. Smart and Piety Ledbetter; her maternal grandparents were Mathew Malachi Rushing and Elizabeth Thornhill. She had six brothers and two sisters, named William Edward, Malachi A., Charles Richard, Henry Porter, Sefsee, Francis Marion, Eliza M. and Caroline Temperance. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 94 on January 1st, 1920 in AL. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, Pike Co., AL.1 1 -
