James Monroe was born on May 13th, 1849 in Lowndes County, Alabama.1   James Monroe's father was Overstreet Wiley Garrett and his mother was Martha P Bozeman.  His paternal grandparents were Robert* Jackson, Sr. Garrett and Mary* Ann Clackler. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Joshua Hill, John Coleman, Thomas Jefferson, Frances Sara, Rebecca Virginia and Martha Jane.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Robert Jonathan, Nedam Gray, Joseph Henry, George, Mary Elizabeth, Eliza Jane and Susan Caroline.  He died at the age of 87 on March 10th, 1937 in DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, Florida.  He was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, Florida.1 1

‌James Monroe and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on September 19th, 1895.2
