Robert Jonathan was born on December 1st, 1856 in Wellborn, Coffee County, Alabama.1 Robert Jonathan's father was Overstreet Wiley Garrett and his mother was Elizabeth A. Roberson. His paternal grandparents were Robert* Jackson, Sr. Garrett and Mary* Ann Clackler. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Nedam Gray, Joseph Henry, George, Mary Elizabeth, Eliza Jane and Susan Caroline. He was the oldest of the seven children. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Joshua Hill, James Monroe, John Coleman, Thomas Jefferson, Frances Sara, Rebecca Virginia and Martha Jane.
