Edwin Philetus was born on September 27th, 1854 in Henderson Co., Illinois. Edwin Philetus' father was William Payne Toler and his mother was Mariah Anderson Taliaferro. His paternal grandparents were Anderson Toler and Lucy Smith; his maternal grandparents were Robert Brooke Taliaferro and Cecelia A. Ellett. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Robert Anderson, William Brooke, Thaddeus Coleman, Zerriah Smith, Benjamin Alpheus, Milner M., Lucy Ann, Bertha Payne, Mildred Ora and Ida Ellen. He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.-
