Benjamin Alpheus was born on November 18th, 1852 in Henderson Co., Illinois. Benjamin Alpheus' father was William Payne Toler and his mother was Mariah Anderson Taliaferro. His paternal grandparents were Anderson Toler and Lucy Smith; his maternal grandparents were Robert Brooke Taliaferro and Cecelia A. Ellett. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Robert Anderson, William Brooke, Thaddeus Coleman, Zerriah Smith, Edwin Philetus, Milner M., Lucy Ann, Bertha Payne, Mildred Ora and Ida Ellen. He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.-
