Sarah was born in 1721 in Great Sampford, Essex and her christening took place on May 21st, 1721 in St Michael, Great Sampford, Essex.1 2   Sarah's father was William Hockley and her mother was Mary Bentley.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hockley and Anne Chapman. She had six brothers and five sisters, named William, Richard, John, John, James, Daniel, Johanna, Mary, Susanna, Ann and Grace.  She was the third youngest of the twelve children.
