Daniel was born in 1725 in Great Sampford, Essex and his christening took place on May 18th, 1725 in St Michael, Great Sampford, Essex.1 2   Daniel's father was William Hockley and his mother was Mary Bentley.  His paternal grandparents were William Hockley and Anne Chapman. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William, Richard, John, John, James, Johanna, Mary, Susanna, Ann, Sarah and Grace.  He was the youngest of the twelve children.
