Ann was born in 1718 in Great Sampford, Essex and her christening took place on May 23rd, 1718 in St Michael, Great Sampford, Essex.1 2   Ann's father was William Hockley and her mother was Mary Bentley.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hockley and Anne Chapman. She had six brothers and five sisters, named William, Richard, John, John, James, Daniel, Johanna, Mary, Susanna, Sarah and Grace.  She was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.
