Grace was born in 1723 in Great Sampford, Essex and her christening took place on May 25th, 1723 in St Michael, Great Sampford, Essex.1 2   Grace's father was William Hockley and her mother was Mary Bentley.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hockley and Anne Chapman. She had six brothers and five sisters, named William, Richard, John, John, James, Daniel, Johanna, Mary, Susanna, Ann and Sarah.  She was the second youngest of the twelve children.
