Henry was born on May 9th, 1828 in Whippingham, Isle of Wight and his christening took place there on June 8th, 1828.1   Henry's father was William Groves and his mother was Jane Barnett.  His paternal grandparents were James Groves and Mary Chiverton. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, Reuben, George, Charles, Jane, Jane and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 72 in December 1900 in Whippingham, Isle of Wight.  He was buried on November 7th, 1900 in East Cowes, Isle of Wight.2 3
