Elizabeth was born on September 16th, 1294 in Monmouth Castle, Monmouthshire, Wales. Elizabeth's father was Gilbert De Clare and her mother was Joan Plantagenet. Her paternal grandparents were Richard De Clare and Maud De Lacy; her maternal grandparents were Edward I Plantagenet and Eleanor of Castile. She had two sisters named Alianor and Margaret. She was the youngest of the three children. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Isabel, Joan and Mary.
