James The White Earl was born in 1392.  James The White Earl's father was James Butler and his mother was Anne de Welles.  His paternal grandparents were James the Chaste Noble Earl Butler and Elizabeth Darcy; his maternal grandparents were John de Welles and Margaret (Eleanor) de Mowbray. He had two brothers named Richard and Thomas Bacach.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had four half-brothers named Edmund, Gerald, James Gallda and Theobald.  He died at the age of 60 on August 23rd, 1452 in Ardee.  He was buried in St. Mary's Abbey, Dublin, Ireland.

‌James The White Earl and Joan (Elizabeth) were married in a religious ceremony on August 28th, 1413.  They had three sons and a daughter, named John, James, Thomas and Elizabeth.
