Mary was born in September 1839 in Little Neston and her baptism took place on November 3rd, 1839 in Neston.1 2  Mary's father was Joseph Oxton and her mother was Rachel Williams.  Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Williams and Ann Millington. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, William, Joseph, John, George, Thomas, Anne, Alice, Margaret and Rachel.  She was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 2 in December 1841 in Neston.1
