Alice was born in May 1826 in Little Neston and her baptism took place on May 26th, 1826 in Neston.1  Alice's father was Joseph Oxton and her mother was Rachel Williams.  Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Williams and Ann Millington. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, William, Joseph, John, George, Thomas, Anne, Margaret, Mary and Rachel.  She was the second oldest of the eleven children.
