George was born in September 1845 in Neston.1  George's father was Joseph Oxton and his mother was Rachel Williams.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel Williams and Ann Millington. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, William, Joseph, John, Thomas, Anne, Alice, Margaret, Mary and Rachel.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 4 in September 1849 in the Wirral.1
