William was born on March 25th, 1897 in Westhoughton.1  William's father was Moses Mather and his mother was Ann Adamson.  His paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Catherine Mather. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James, Joseph, Henry, Edward, John, Mary, Catherine and Alice.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 80 on December 14th, 1977 in Bolton.  He was cremated on December 19th, 1977.2 3 



William's family with Nellie Armitage

‌William and Nellie were married in a civil ceremony in 1922.4   They had three sons named James, Clifford and Ronald.  There are no more children.
