Alice was born in March 1905 in Westhoughton.1  Alice's father was Moses Mather and her mother was Ann Adamson.  Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Catherine Mather. She had six brothers and two sisters, named James, Joseph, Henry, William, Edward, John, Mary and Catherine.  She was the youngest of the nine children.
