Edward was born on November 14th, 1899 in Westhoughton.1  Edward's father was Moses Mather and his mother was Ann Adamson.  His paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Catherine Mather. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James, Joseph, Henry, William, John, Mary, Catherine and Alice.  He was the seventh oldest of the nine children.
