Catherine's father was Moses Mather and her mother was Ann Adamson.  Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Catherine Mather. She had six brothers and two sisters, named James, Joseph, Henry, William, Edward, John, Mary and Alice.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 73 in December 1967 in Bolton.²
