Moses' father was <unknown> and his mother was Catherine Mather. He had a sister named Mary. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 85 in June 1949 in Blackpool. His burial was in June 1949 at St. Bartholomew (Westhoughton).²

- Moses Mather was illegitimate. No father was named on the birth index.
  
  In 1871, Moses was 7, living with his grandparents Simon and Alice Radcliffe (53 & 47).
  
  In 1881, Moses Radcliffe (18), Son (probably of Catherine Radcliffe, unmarried, 36) was a Coal Miner at 1 Lee Fold, Westhoughton. Simon and Alice Radcliffe (63 & 57) were head of household.
  
  In 1891, Moses, a Coal Miner, and Ann (27 & 26) were at 43 Manchester Road, Westhoughton with James, Mary E and Joseph (4, 2 & 2mo)
  
  Moses became an indurance agent in later life. He and wife Ann both died in Blackpool.
  
  Moses names one of his sons William Adamson Mather, so confirming this civil marriage to Ann Adamson in 1885 (when he was 22).
  
  Moses is buried at Westhoughton in the same grave as Zilpha
