Simon Mather

Simon was born in June 1848 in Entwistle.¹

Simon's father was Isaac Mather and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Marsden. His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Rachel Hamer. He had four brothers and five sisters, named James, Luke, Joseph, John, Betty, Sophia, Ruth, Sarah and Esther. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother named Isaac. He died at the age of 39 in March 1888 in Blackburn.²

  9 Oct 1869, Simon Mather (21), a labourer of Entwistle, son of Isaac Mather a labourer married Elizabeth Cooper, the daughter of Thomas Cooper from Edgworth.
  
  In 1871, Simon and Elizabeth (22 & 25) with daughter Sophia (1) were living with Thomas and Ann Entwistle (34 & 38) and family in Over Darwen.
