Sarah was born in 1797 in Withnell and her baptism took place on January 28th, 1798 at St. Laurence (Chorley).¹

Birth Notes

Sarah's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Ann Clarkson. Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Esther Mason; her maternal grandparents were Peter Clarkson and Ann Constantine. She had three brothers and five sisters, named James, John, Alexander, Jane, Mary, Betty, Peggy and Ann. She was the fourth oldest of the nine known children.
