In 1871, Samuel (20) was at 28 Shaw Street, Bolton with his parents and siblings. His uncle William Mather b.1834 lived at 18 Back Milk Street in 1871.
In 1881, Samuel a cotton spinner and Martha (30 & 28) where at 15 Back Milk Street with Ellen, John and Hannah (6,4,& 2)
In 1891, Samuel was lodging with John Greenhalgh and family at 28 Shaw Street. Also there were son John (14) and daughter Hannah (11).
In 1899, brother Thomas a beer seller of 36 Rothwell Street died, and in 1901 Samuel was the adminiostrator.
After John died, Samuel took over the busines of being a beerseller. He was 59 and married and an employer in 1911, and his son John a brewer. Brother Robert was living with him at 32 Rothwell Street (Bolton), an assistant brewer.
