In 1810, John Mather, mechanic, married Mary Taylor at Leigh. His brother Joseph and (assumed) brother James Mather were witness. (Sir William Mather was also a machine maker at Salford in 1836)
We know John and Joseph were brothers because thay both had daughters named Betsy, and in 1881 the same informant, Joseph Allen, recorded both their deaths.
13 May 1816, John Mather, Machine Maker, married Ann Thompson.
3 Jan 1819 Jane & Joseph Mather were baptised at Bolton-le-Moors, St Peter. John was a Machine Maker of Little Bolton.
In 1821, John Mather, mechanic was listed at 35 Canal Street in the Manchester Business Directory.
In 1841, John Mather (a Mechanic) and Ann (both 50) were in were living in Back Hadfield St, Ancoats, Manchester with daughters Martha and Ellen (9 & 8). John was listed at 27 Dean Street, Great Ancoats as a Mechanic in the 1841 Pigot & Slater's Directory of Manchester & Salford.
In 1850, John Mather, Mechanic is listed in Slater's directory at Ordsal Lane, Salford, which must be another if he died in 1841 (or else he died later).
In 1842, John died at the Manchester Workhouse (aged 60). A burial records his abode as Little Bolton, aged 58.
Later records (after his death) also show another John as an Iron Fitter and Engineer.
