Thomas' father was John (Mechanic) Mather and his mother was Mary Taylor. He had two sisters named Betty and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Joseph, John, John, Thomas, Jane, Martha and Ellen.  He died at the age of 1 in June 1817 in Little Bolton.  He was buried on June 15th, 1817 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
