John Mather

John was born in 1826 in Deane and his baptism took place on September 3rd, 1826 at St. Mary (Deane).¹²

John's father was William Mather and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Farrand. His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, Wright, Wright, William, Susannah, Ellen and Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 43 in June 1869 in Little Hulton. His burial was on June 10th, 1869.³

- John is missing in 1871, and his surviving children are with their grandparents. He probably died in 1869 and buried in Deane (where wife Elizabeth and daughter Mary are buried).

  28 Mar 1853, John Mather, Forgeman Great Bolton, son of William Mather a weaver, married Elizabeth Coop, spinster of Little Bolton, daughter of Thomas Coop, a spinner.
  
  In 1861, John a "Furnace Man" and Elizabeth (34 & 31) were at 49 Peel Street, E Bolton with Thomas (8) and Mary (5)
  
  John's wife Elizabeth died March 1867 and was buried at St Mary, Deane. John may also have died 1869, aged 43 and buried at Dean. However, after Elizabeth died he may have gone to the USA with his daughter Susannah - TBC.
  
  In 1911, John Mather, Furnaceman, aged 84, widowed, was lodging with Robert Lee (60) at 17 Nobel Street, Bolton.
