Ellen was born in June 1839 in Bolton.1  Ellen's father was William Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Farrand.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, James, Wright, Wright, William, Susannah and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 1 in February 1841 in Bolton.  She was buried on February 24th, 1841 in Bolton.2 1
