In 1841, John Mather (15, Male Servant for William Gill, a farmer) was the only other Mather in Rumworth in 1841 (other than James Mather b.1792, Hall'ith Wood).
In 1851, John, aged 25, was an Ag. Lab at Bridge Hill Farm, Heaton, working for Richard (29, Head) and Mary Hough. Betty Edge was their servant girl, just 15.
NOTE: There is another older John Mather from Tyldesley, son of Jeffery, who married Alice Knnton at Manchester in 1836.
Things happened, and John and Betty had to quickly get married on 19 June 1853. Their daughter Catherine E Mather was born the same year.

In 1879, John was a Forge Man when son Edward of Deane village married Elizabeth Howcroft.
